When little swimmers begin learning their backstroke arms, we often see a forward rotation, rather than backwards. Avoiding forward rotation in backstroke is one of the most challenging habits to break.
Swimmers get in the habit of rotating their arms in a circular movement forward through the practice of freestyle. To break the habit, swimmers must recognise the different movement sequences for each stroke (freestyle and backstroke), and ultimately work to learn their backward rotating arms, which is very new. Our teachers guide swimmers through repetitive practice to build muscle memory.
Swimmers show improvement once they build their muscle memory and adjust to new habits. Remember, every student learns at a different pace, we at Paradise Swim encourage swimmers to work their hardest and support them through their learning.
