Teaching 2 year olds to submerge and kick forwards

Updated: May 9

2 year old swimmers will naturally seek to raise their head as soon as they are submerged and the creates a vertical swimming position.

For safe swimmers, we need to keep eyes down at the bottom of the pool as they kick towards their safety. We teach these through instruction and visual cues such as toys below their eye-level to keep head positioning in place.

Kicking activity is generally taught around the excitement of creating splashes with their toes. We use equipment to help isolate the skill and allow the swimmer to use their legs initially without concern of submersion. Once the skill and understanding of cue is developed we can expect this skill to translate over to submerged kicking.
