Why are bubbles so important?

Updated: Jun 27

At Paradise Swim we teach children to blow bubbles with eyes in the water from the age of 18months onwards. This is a slow progression to encourage the children to blow bubbles on their own when they are 2 and a half years old whilst swimming on their tummy.

At first blowing bubbles helps to build confidence for transition to face in water. As the child develops their swimming further blowing bubbles encourages breath control and builds a breath pattern required for stroke development.

When a child reaches 2.5years they will move a Parent-Baby class to a Beginner class. In a beginner class swimmers will learn how to take a breath on their own. To do this it is very important that swimmers are blowing bubbles. Blowing bubbles let's all the air out so when a swimmer lifts their head up for a breath they only have to breathe the air in, making swimming so much easier.

A more advanced version blowing bubbles is in our stroke development classes. This allows for breath control, to slow down our strokes and correct our swimmers techniques.
